History of Chhattisgarh
The origins of CG can be traced back to the pioneering work of Colonel REB Crompton, who, in 1878 founded a business at Chelmsford, Essex, England under the name of REB Crompton & Co., to engage in the manufacture and contracting of electrical equipment.
REB Crompton & Co. merged with F&A Parkinson Limited, thereby establishing Crompton Parkinson Limited (CPL) in England. In 1937, CPL established its wholly owned Indian subsidiary 'Crompton Parkinson Works Ltd.', in Mumbai, along with a sales organization, 'Greaves Cotton & Crompton Parkinson Ltd.'
In the year 1947, with the dawn of the independence of India, the Company was taken over by Lala Karamchand Thapar, an eminent Indian industrialist who formed the Thapar Group. In 1966, Crompton Parkinson Works Ltd and Greaves Cotton & Crompton Parkinson Ltd. merged to create Crompton Greaves Limited (CG) in its present form.
In the 1960s CG took its initial steps to revolutionize its portfolio, which till then comprised only motors and consumer products. It took a major leap in the electrical engineering segment, through the acquisition of transformer technology from Westinghouse Electric Corporation of USA, for manufacture of 400 kV transformers and aluminum wound transformers. This was followed by further expansion in the switchgear, vacuum interrupter and allied businesses. By 2005, the Company had emerged as one of the leading companies in the electrical engineering domain of India, in its three business areas of Power Systems, Industrial Systems and Consumer Products; and a serious contender in the global arena.
CG established its international manufacturing footprint in the year 2005 by acquisition of the Belgium based Pauwels Group, which gave CG additional manufacturing facilities for Power and Distribution transformers at Belgium, Ireland, USA, Canada and Indonesia. This was followed with a series of successful acquisitions - Ganz, Hungary in 2006; Microsol, Ireland in 2007; Sonomatra, France; MSE, USA in 2008 and PTS, UK in 2010 in its quest to establish a technology edge, increase its global market reach and enhance the product portfolio. The business domains of the new companies that joined the CG family, has charted the way for CG becoming a "full solutions provider" which has carved out for CG a position as a serious international player and a recognized transnational corporation.
Initially, CG`s foreign acquisitions operated their respective businesses under their individual Brand names. To integrate these new entrants into the CG family, the first step was integration of processes, systems and technologies across all the acquired companies worldwide. The next step was to articulate the one single idea that provided a common thread through all the CG Group companies. We discovered our shared philosophy as "our core strength is the value we place on relationships, and the ability to provide solutions, which, in turn, strengthen these relationships". This realisation and initiative gave birth to CG`s new Brand Identity which was launched on 15th October, 2009, succinctly conveying this shared philosophy.
Whilst the Company`s name in India will continue to be Crompton Greaves, the names of all the foreign companies in the CG family start with "CG", thus establishing their lineage and uniting every company in the CG family with a common face to the internal as well as the external world, globally.
Today, CG is a public listed company, amongst the "A" (premier) category of listings on the Bombay and National Stock Exchanges of India and its GDRs are listed on the London Stock Exchange, with over 70,000 shareholders.

Unemployment rate is higher amongst educated rural india
Worst fears that there exist huge disparities in the quality of education between rural and urban India (aka Bharat and India) have finally come true. Labour Ministry data indicates that higher education and degrees are not helping rural job aspirants to get their coveted jobs.
Not only unemployment among rural graduates and post-graduates is higher, but also they lack basic skill-sets to fill the demands of market economy. The dangerous trend, if anything, may offset the gains by India at the literacy front.
While the country has added more literates in rural India from 58.7% in 2001 to 68.91% in 2011, the job market hasn’t kept pace with the growing demands of job seekers from villages.
The bigger cause for concern according to the labour ministry data is: the unemployment rate among rural educated youths is higher as compared to their urban counterparts. It stands at 13.9% for rural areas against 7.6% in urban areas.
The ministry data, released on July 18 this year confirms worst fears of expanding education sector not being able to deliver quality higher education and that there existed huge gaps in skill sets acquisition in rural India.
Elaborating the rural-urban gap in job sector is further in the country Ambarish Raghuvanshi, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Naukri.com says, “There is less number of industries in rural areas thus fewer options are available for an educated person in rural areas.”
Unraveling the factors behind higher unemployment rate amongst educated rural Indians, Kris Laxmikant, Chief Executive Officer, Headhunters India, explained, “After facing lot of hardships when people staying in rural remote areas acquire education, expectation for good jobs develop and restrictions occur. People who are either illiterate or less educated who could not afford education will take up any job as their family constraints are higher in comparison to those who are highly qualified.”
That economic slowdown is taking toll on job creation and disparity is not lost upon experts. Ambarish Raghuvanshi, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Naukri.com reckons, “Many young professionals from rural areas earlier used to get jobs in sectors like insurance that usually had more jobs but unfortunately as the economy is not doing well, these sectors are low with opportunities. So, the educated aspirants who used to get a job easily in an insurance company not sits empty handed.”
If anything, it indicates not only the lack of quality in higher education in rural areas but huge gaps in requisite skill sets to fill the requirements of job market.
Talking on the skill requirement, DK Joshi, Chief Economist at CRISIL says, “Unemployment rate is higher amongst rural Indians with higher degrees because Indian education system is flooded with educational institutions with vast number of courses which mostly do not fit into the requirements of industry. We can say that the skill which is available doesn’t match the required skill.”

republic day
One of the three national holidays in India, Republic Day is celebrated with great pomp and show throughout the nation each year. Preparations begin almost a month before for the actual day. A massive parade is held which reflects a touch of modernity in the display of might and technology and the capabilities of growth in various sectors. While the parade symbolizes the power and force, the different regional tableaus reflect the cultural themes and motifs. Republic Day has a very significant place in the Indian history as India became a ‘Republic’ from a ‘British Dominion’ on this very day. Browse through the following lines to know all about the history and origin of Republic Day.
Origin of Republic Day
India became independent from the British Rule on 15th August, 1947. However, the country did not have its own constitution and wholly depended on the modified colonial Government of India Act, 1935. Also, India was headed by King George VI, until the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950. Prior to this, the seeds of a republican nation were sowed by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in the Lahore session at the Indian National Congress at the midnight of 31st December, 1929 - 1st January, 1930. The tri-color flag was unfurled by the nationalists present who took a pledge to celebrate ‘Purna Swaraj’ (complete Independence) Day every year on 26th January, while continuing to fight for the establishment of a Sovereign Democratic Republic of India.
The independence was achieved in 1947 while the professed pledge was redeemed on 26th January, 1950. The Indian Constituent Assembly was called together on 9th December, 1946, where a committee was formed. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar became the chairman of the committee, who along with the other members drafted the Constitution. The Indian Constitution included 395 Articles and 8 Schedules. The Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November, 1949. In the following year on 26th January, 1950, the Constitution of India came into force and became a ‘sovereign democratic republic’ of India, 894 days after the withdrawal of British Rule in 1947, which is why, it is said that India achieved its true independence on this day.
Next, elections were held and Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected as the first President of free India. He took the oath at the Durban Hall in the Government House, which was followed by the Presidential drive along the five-mile route to the Irwin Stadium. He unfurled the National Flag at the stadium. This transition of India into a sovereign democratic republic nation is indeed a historical event. The two decade long journey, right from the conceptualization of the dream in 1930 to its actual realization in 1950, is certainly worth a grand celebration. Today, the Indian Constitution is the longest in the world, consisting of 397 articles and 12 schedules, providing a single citizenship for the whole nation. The national holiday is celebrated with festivities and patriotic fervor across the whole nation.
